Who can join the Choir?
The Canberra Men’s Choir is a non-auditioned choir that welcomes any men who enjoy singing regardless of their musical experience and ability. The Choir is proud of the fact that many of its members’ first experience with singing is when they join the Choir.
Who leads the Choir?
The Musical Director is Leanne McKean. Leanne is an experienced opera singer and conductor who has worked with a variety of community, school and chamber choirs. Our piano accompanist, Vivian Zhu, is also an accomplished pianist with a wide and varied repertoire. Leanne is supported by Assistant Musical Director, Martin Magill, who is also an accomplished singer and pianist.
Can I come to a rehearsal to find out if the Choir is right for me?
The Choir’s aim is to encourage more men to get involved in singing and enjoy themselves. You are welcome to come along and check us out. We rehearse every Monday at 7:30pm at the Harmonie German Club, 49 Jerrabomberra Avenue Narrabundah. The easiest way to find out if the Choir is right for you is to attend one of our open nights. But you don’t have to wait for an open night to check us out. Send us a message for more information.

After retiring, my wife and I spent two years travelling Australia with our caravan and we landed back in Canberra, and I thought, “What am I going to do now”?
I saw a Facebook Ad which said, “no audition required”, and I thought, “this sounds perfect”. And I came along with knocking knees and great trepidation. I sang when I was a boy, but then my voice broke and I turned into some sort of toad!
I’m a typical male; I don’t have a lot of mates in Canberra … so I’ve met a whole lot of new guys. It’s just awesome fellowship.
Individually, I’m still a harsh critic of myself, but collectively … the sound that comes out when we’re all together is just amazing!
I have been the Musical Director of Canberra Men’s Choir since 2015 and am delighted to lead Canberra Men’s Choir. The sound of four part men’s harmony is unique and the enthusiasm of this choir is just infectious.
The connection you feel when you sing with a group is incomparable and they are the two elements that keeps me leading this choir – the sound we can create together and the community this creates.
